Simple Sunday

I’d like to share with you the birthday gift that Jim gave me back in November. I’ve been wanting one for so long and it is very special to me. We found it at an antiques fair where Jim’s express purpose in taking me there was to find a proper birthday gift for me. And he did good! I had a tough time allowing him to spend the money on it, but in the end I gave in. I’m like that. I mean, he would have felt so bad if I didn’t let him get it for me…

It didn’t scan very well, but isn’t it lovely? Correct me if you know better, but I’m assuming this is an ambrotype (you would think I’d know much more than I actually do).
The leather case that holds it is in very good condition and the two wee little latches that close it are still intact.

  1. Ambrotype is a good guess. I don’t know much about various photography methods but the clothing in the images is appropriate to the era of ambrotypes…about early 1860s.

I would love to hear what you think!
